Cornbread Supper for PresDay, February 21, 2011

Although we have crocuses blooming -- at last -- it was not exactly balmy for the 2011 Presidents' Day edition of Cornbread Suppers. Even so, we cleaned the winter dust off the porch table and chairs, and lit the outside candle. Sure enough, out of the large crowd of Cornbreadians who came to Supper, quite a few made their way onto the porch for play and fresh air February dining. Monday holidays bring people to Cornbread Supper who have regular obligations on other Mondays. The mix keeps mixing, and is fine and invigorating. Or maybe that was the Kombucha and the delightful spices in this week's foods. Kombucha (fermented green tea) Kale, squash, white beans, onions, etc. Mac & a bunch of cheeses, peas & marjoram, tomatoes Chelb, peasant bread Roasted cauliflower w/Parmesan Traditional Black Skillet Cornbread (vegetarian on the right, animalian/pork drippings on the left) Sorghum Butter -- Unpasteurized Homemade Pastured Butter. Cornbread Supper, the Valentine's Day Edition, February 14, 2011

So that answers that question: Will people come to Cornbread Supper on Valentine's Day? Yes, they will, and they did, and they brought Kale Crisps that drew rave reviews, along with other good things, some listed below. One other notable fact for February 14, 2011: The gardening season officially began. We found two tiny sprigs of fresh Wayne County mint in the Campsie garden, and it went into a salad a Cornbreadian brought. So we are now officially eating from our own place again, eating fresh food. Pretty good for Valentine's Day. Cornbread Supper, February 7, 2011

Small cameras in the hands of an amateur documentarian cannot quite capture the magical snow that fell all this Monday, February 7, 2011. One friend posted on Facebook: "The snow flakes are coming down holding hands." Remarkable, beautiful day, capped -- or crusted?? -- with a fine Cornbread Supper. We lucky people now have access to Elmwood Stock Farm's brand new product, organic white cornmeal that they mill themselves, to just the right consistency. That's one result, above, also made with Elmwood's amazing organic, pastured eggs, and local buttermilk. Other tasty foods on this snowy night: Organic chicken sausage and chicken broth onion, celery, sweet potatoes Super Super Bowl Dip Soup! Lentils, Kidneys, etc. No salt. This week, neighbor/graphic designer/radio personality/media guru Mick Jeffries shot video for a project he intends to submit to Lexington Film League' s Do-Ers Video Contest. And people brought wonderful food, kids played, adults talked, and a good time ensued all around, camera or no camera.
